Name: Vincent Valentine
Canon: Final Fantasy VII (Original Game)
Canon Point: Shortly after the events of the original game end; once the party go their separate ways and as signs of 'Midgar Pox' (Geostigma) are something people are becoming aware of.
Age: 27 Physically, Approx mid-50s chronologically.
History Link Here
Using the novel, 'On the Way To A Smile' and the Dirge of Cerberus flashback as a reference; Vincent and Yuffie stayed in Midgar to help evacuate as many people as possible while Meteor was still in the air while the remaining group went to fight Sephiroth and Jenova in the North Crater. Afterward the group met up at the spring in the City of the Ancients to commune with Aerith. Vincent was the first to leave, which largely started the party's dissolution and the two year interval until the Advent Children movie.
Vincent's demeanor suggests a stern man, mysterious and sometimes cold. Even younger, he preferred solitude over company, showing signs of being easily flustered in social situations which aren't purely professional. Particularly so if it were someone he had feelings for. Locking himself away and extreme guilt only amplified this natural tendency, leading people to assume he has little or no interest in events around him. He's slow to warm to people, slower still to open up; this latter perhaps reasonably so. Social, outgoing events are extremely exhausting to him, causing a tendency to retreat to lonely corners if he feels he must stay and leave the moment he's done.
But underneath the cold demeanor lies a great deal of emotion. He possesses very little in the way of hatred for anything in particular, believing most have their own circumstances and it would be hypocritical at best given his own past as a Turk. But those rare occasions it manifests, it is absolute. Likewise he is not quick to anger, though it would often be for the sake of others rather than himself and particularly for those who have come to be regarded as friends. Despite a well-stated preference to being left alone with his own issues, Vincent can be cajoled into frivolous activities because of his own personal interest or to learn more about the people he journeyed with. He has a quiet, dry, and often sly sense of humor that belies his outward demeanor and catches people unaware. He cares about what happens around him and cares deeply, enough to drown himself in self-imposed guilt for his failures.
As a victim of terrible experiments, Vincent has suffered through massive physical and mental trauma. Severe nightmares plague him, blending the events and his guilt over failing to save his beloved from her own fate into an nigh-inescapable morass of guilt and self-loathing. Awakening to find himself an immortal, monstrous product of Hojo's experiments and Lucrecia's efforts to save him did no favors to his state of mind, with half-glimpsed memories of the procedures leaving him confused and uncertain if the latter's efforts had been made for his benefit or her scientific curiosity and anger toward his failures. Though this easily lead to a virtually unwavering belief such punishment would have been no less than he deserved.
Emerging from his decades-long slumber had given him a wider world in which to process what happened to him but more importantly what is and isn't his sin to bear. Through traveling with Cloud and the others, he learned that he couldn't stay still, mired in the past. Though he had no interest in doing by settling in a community with its social pressures and his own internal, literal monsters to corral, neither would he return to the Shinra Mansion's basement. He chose to keep moving forward.
Note: We did some talk about mapping out his abilities but let me also know if you think something else listed should be broken down a bit more too (whether I misremember/misunderstood or something on reflection needs a bit more consideration) ! I am 100% down to making sure we are balancing this lad properly.
Enhanced Senses (Active) - Somewhere between a strong connection to the planet and the monster-senses, Vincent exhibits extrasensory abilities and a keen sense to discern when something is amiss in the natural order. He seems able to sense oddities, fiends, and monsters despite there being some distance between himself and the cause. He's probably hard to sneak up on as well.
Indestructible Body (Inactive) - Because of Hojo's experiments, Vincent possesses an 'indestructible, ageless' body. He hasn't grown any older in the near thirty years since the ordeal and he recovers in a short period even from normally fatal wounds, seeming to return from even a full loss of his body. He can still feel pain, be rendered unconscious and experience 'status ailments', particularly magic-induced ones in most scenarios with varying degrees of severity.
Telekinesis/Gravity Control/Spoopy Ability (Active) - While never completely defined in canon, Vincent has abilities that are beyond the cinematic norms of FF7 characters/use of materia. Heightened reflexes and impossible jumps (such as jumping up to a cliff edge as high as an office building with zero effort ) and treating gravity or physics like afterthoughts (when Cloud first meets him, or standing on an edge that should tip or tilt a container under his weight alone) are all traits of this. Good Reference Example
Chaos Factor/Stagnant Mako (Inactive) - Part of the process Lucrecia used to stablize Vincent's body, he is infused with a type of natural Lifestream byproduct which is also part of what gives birth to Chaos. This grants him immunity to its overwhelming, erosive effects and may apply defense against similar types of energies. (Examples of this are Nero's abilities in Remake Intergrade/Nero in Dirge of Cerberus).
Limit Break(s) - Metamorphosis. Because of the experiments Vincent underwent, he undergoes transformations into various monstrous shapes that enhance certain qualities. At this time he still has little control and can't do this at will (though he is working on it). His memories during the transformation are tenuous at best but he does manage to keep himself from attacking allies and friends. All transformations seem to heal him up and he becomes immune to many forms of mental influence (charm for instance, mind control) and many forms of physical transformation. This probably doesn't block someone from trying to get to him telepathically.
Level 1 Galian Beast - a bipedal beast with similar attributes to a behemoth. With claws and fangs and higher reflexes he attacks much as a beast might with high accuracy and swiftness (melee). He can also charge the air with fire (Beast Flare) and cause damage to enemies in a moderate area (ranged).
Level 1 - Active | Beast Flare - Inactive
Level 2 Death Gigas - A monster similar in appearance to the classic movie 'Frankenstein's Monster', death gigas is slower, with massive increases in defense and endurance (hp). Extraordinary physical strength means if he hits, it will hurt. Also capable of a lightning-elemental area magical attack called Livewire.
Level 2 - Inactive | Livewire - Inactive
Level 3 Hellmasker - A monstrous humanoid with a hockey mask and a chainsaw. Gets a moderate boost to defenses but no real extra on strength or speed. His attacks become a mixture of swinging the chainsaw around wildly or inflicting a nightmarish soup of status ailments on a single foe. (Sleep, Poison, Silence, Confusion, Frog and Small(Mini)).
Level 3 - Inactive | Nightmare - Inactive
Level 4 Chaos - While Chaos is one of his transformations and is Vincent, it also exists as an entity on its own right. Lucrecia's actions trying to save Vincent after Hojo deemed his experiments a 'failure' paved the way for Chaos to merge with Vincent. In truth, Chaos is a WEAPON- the being who will appear when the planet can no longer sustain life. Its purpose is to send all life back to the Lifestream so that Omega, another WEAPON, can launch with it into the cosmos to find another planet to continue life upon. While Vincent eventually learns he can keep his humanity while Chaos without it for a time, there is a specialized materia within him that serves as the actual catalyst as to why he didn't lose himself to Chaos long ago. Chaos is capable of flight and extremely powerful attacks, including possible 'instant death'.
Level 4 - Inactive | Satan Slam - Inactive
Magic (Inactive?) - While materia's generally the only means on his world for using magic, Vincent is a decently strong spellcaster in that regard, with a fairly generous amount of mana to draw on.
(Question: Would 'capable of using magic' be considered a passive thing or need to be regained as well. Since Vincent is so powerful I am not sure- none of his materia-on-hand will be active at the start- but there's also a connection between magic ability and his limit breaks so I want to be clear on this one! Also it would be relevant in the sense of 'can he use someone ELSE'S materia' situations).
Skills of Note - Vincent is a former member of Shinra Company's Turks, a group of specialists who were responsible for investigations, intelligence, security and the dirty work. Vincent is trained in a wide range of skills that facilitate the work he performed. This would include hand-to-hand combat, intelligence, stealth, surveillance, security and any number of skills such operatives would find useful in their line of work. His particular specialty was in firearms and marksmanship; he was considered the best of his time. He seems more than capable of reading and understanding scientific reports on a fundamental level; likely a combination of vested interest in what happened to him and having a scientist father.
A pink ribbon - Not an accessory, this ribbon is worn on his upper right arm in memory of Aerith. It is a plain ribbon.
Outsider - Similar in design to a .357 Colt python. A well balanced, endgame weapon. Materia within can grow at a normal rate (Inactive until regain).
Death Penalty - the game's 'ultimate weapon' for Vincent, a Colt M1855 revolving rifle in design. Gains strength the more enemies Vincent kills. (This feature's boost will be inactive pending regain)
Ziedrich - While there is conventional armor pieces, Gaia's main defenses come in the form of bangles and armlets. Has strong magic and physical defense. Ziedrich cuts 'elemental' damage by half (this includes cut, slash, shoot, hit, punch). Also enhances strength and magic. (Other than possible materia use, these special traits will be inactive pending regain. Should the default defense be as well? Bangles are pretty weird/magiclike armor after all.)
Materia - Exit Rank 1 (Inactive)
Speed Rank 3 (Inactive)
Lightning Rank 2 (Inactive)
Vincent has a materia grafted into his body. Called the Ancient Materia/Protomateria, it is directly linked to Chaos in significance and is relevant to controlling or at least aiding in controlling Chaos. (As an aside it's also a control for Omega, who Chaos is intertwined with. But without a Lifestream this second part should remain irrelevant to Revan.)
I like monster transformations, I like vehicles and I like guns. Vincent is a man who puts up a lot of effort of staying away from people and keeping away from crowds. He's also going to have a certain trouble struggling as the Revan transformations strive to take away the last vestige of humanity he's kept hold of. However, as much as he isn't thrilled with the convoy, this isn't his world and he knows the value of sticking together in a group to find out what's going on.
Vincent is keen to get back home and that means finding the person responsible and getting himself back home; as well as any friends he (reluctantly) makes along the way. Especially if those friends are ones from back home themselves.
1. [Undead] The two examples (Vampire or Wraith) are pretty interchangeable to me as is any interesting variations. I like the idea of thematically appropriate but trying to avoid repeating one of his already-existing forms.
2. [Elemental] Kind of a suggestion from a friend on plurk! Kind of an interesting medium between my first and third choice in levels of interest and exploring an elemental affinity could be interesting!
3. [Fae] ??? - Would a hellhound be suitable? Yes. But I want to toss in something that isn't really covered by any of his Limit Breaks if the first two picks are a concern. I would however, like consideration for a fae idea that isn't pixie or pooka.
Effectively this. A gothic themed hotrod (yes that is the Munsters family car) with the Fast trait.

Backstory:
History Link Here
Using the novel, 'On the Way To A Smile' and the Dirge of Cerberus flashback as a reference; Vincent and Yuffie stayed in Midgar to help evacuate as many people as possible while Meteor was still in the air while the remaining group went to fight Sephiroth and Jenova in the North Crater. Afterward the group met up at the spring in the City of the Ancients to commune with Aerith. Vincent was the first to leave, which largely started the party's dissolution and the two year interval until the Advent Children movie.
Personality
Powers/Abilities
Inventory

Other Characters Currently In-Game: N/A
Character Name: Vincent Valentine
Series: Final Fantasy VII (OG)
Age: Approx 57-60, physically 27.
From When?: End of FF7: Dirge of Cerberus, between kamikaze dive into Omega and final scene at Lucrecia's cavern.
Warden Justification: Within the bounds of his canon, Vincent has run the gamut of experience as a morally gray/dark corporate fixer/security/assassin, suffering terrible torments of human experimentation, and failure to stop some really bad tragedies. So he has the perspective of such livelihoods as well as the practical skills and expertise to manage some of the rowdier inmates 'acting out'. In addition to this he's intelligent and while he doesn't speak much, what he does say tends to be well-thought and insightful. His bargain will make him extremely motivated to overcome his extremely introverted nature to fulfill the obligations and his hidden compassion and diligence will make him want to do the job right, not just 'to completion'. Because of his own past, Vincent has the empathy one can usually only achieve through the gamut of experiencing the cycle of sins, atonement, punishment and closure.
Item: Vincent's Warden Item will be this charm usually attached to his gun, Cerberus.
Abilities/Powers:
Subject of Experimentation: He's been given an 'immortal' body, monstrous transformations, regenerative capability and heightened senses via intense experimentation on his body. Vincent has received overly-fatal levels of damage; while he can be knocked unconscious, suffer pain and the like, he heals up in a short period of time and just... gets back up. His reflexes and strength are clearly far beyond the human norm and he seems capable of defying or manipulating how gravity affects him for limited periods of time (you know this bs or this). His resilent body allowed him to survive the integration of the quasi-WEAPON called Chaos. In balance it seems hinted that he has to fight the urge to sleep.
Heightened Senses: Somewhere between a strong connection to the planet and the monster-senses, Vincent exhibits extrasensory abilities and a keen sense to discern when something is amiss in the natural order. He seems able to sense oddities, fiends, and monsters despite there being some distance between himself and the cause. He's probably hard to sneak up on as well.
Magic Potential: While materia's generally the only means on his world for using magic, Vincent is a decently strong spellcaster in that regard, with a fairly generous amount of mana to draw on.
Shapeshifting: Part of the original experiments on him have given Vincent access to other forms; a behemoth-hybrid called Galian Beast, two humanoid creatures on par with horror movies and the 'demiWEAPON' Chaos (see below). While the intervening years have given him the ability to briefly transform without losing control, it is still a very feral, bestial state for him. A controlled transformation readily drains the same energy used to cast magic and would leave him unable to use spells for a while after. Less controlled transformations could last longer and sometimes might require that he simply be beaten down to stop the rampage.
Ancient/Proto Materia: Within his body resides an ancient materia created by the Planet. It is connected to Omega and Chaos and, when Chaos was within him, quelled its rage and allowed him to retain his human consciousness. Other than being something people might detect and having a type of energy one might expect from 'highly condensed lifestream' pulsing from it, it's so specialized that it has very limited functions: exerting influence over Omega and Chaos (allowing Vincent to control Chaos) and providing shield against their energy. Without this, Vincent cannot easily control or suppress Chaos, though he has succeeded at it.
Chaos Host: Vincent plays host to the planetary 'demiWEAPON', Chaos. Unlike his other transformations (probably), the entity is a being in its own right, acting as herald to events which would summon the WEAPON Omega. In the event of a catastrophe that damages the planet beyond saving, Chaos appears to return all life to the Lifestream which Omega then takes to the stars to find another world to settle on. Being a creature attuned to and crafted by the dark evils, terrors and 'sins' naturally pushed out of the Lifestream, Vincent remains virtually immune to such influences as a result. Chaos is extremely powerful, massively amping up strength, regeneration, and agility to a godlike degree (he chucks a massive anti-airship artillery canon through someone's body like a knife through butter in this state). He is capable of flight and deadly projectile attacks. By the end of Dirge also learns how to draw on the strength and power of Chaos while keeping his human form, arguably pushing him to speeds and strengths that probably easily surpass SOLDIER (at the time of this, the only cinematic example is fighting against another WEAPON-Empowered individual, where the two are moving at speeds where you only see the spark of weapons clashing and after-images taking fatal strikes).
Mundane Skills: Vincent is a former member of Shinra Company's Turks, a group of specialists who were responsible for investigations, intelligence, security and the dirty work. Company fixers if you will. Vincent is trained in a wide range of skills that facilitate the work he performed. This would include hand-to-hand combat, intelligence, stealth, surveilance, security and any number of useful skills such operatives would find useful in their line of work (yes, he probably does know how to make makeshift bombs out of household chemicals, it's probably fine). Even before the experiments that changed his body, his particular specialty was in firearms and marksmanship; he was considered the best of his time. He also is a dab hand at the trading card game 'Queen's Blood' and seems more than capable of reading and understanding scientific reports on a fundamental level; likely a combination of vested interest in what happened to him and having a scientist father.
Restrictions: Overall I do not think anything would be expressly more powerful than the Admiral. The only thing that might come close is channeling or using Chaos but from what I understand, this would probably be on the lines of 'won't fall over flat if the Admiral breathes on him'. Needless to say, probably not a worry here.
Chaos Note: Sometime after Vincent takes out Omega and when he is shown in Lucrecia's Cave two weeks later, Chaos itself is 'returned to the planet'. While I think it would be interesting that the Admiral approaches him at a point after Omega's defeat but before Chaos returns to the planet (as a possible trump card for emergencies), I am just as fine playing without the Chaos transformation option (maybe having it crop up at some appropriate event as a story beat but otherwise...). Please let me know what you, as mods would prefer me to go with or if this is even relevant to what the Admiral might choose to do.
Wardening Strategies and Philosophies:
Overall Vincent will view the job as a Warden in three ways: reformation, punishment/judgment, and guardian/security of the barge as a whole. The latter is a passive role he's comfortable and familiar in the concept of filling thanks to his years and training with the Turks. He also wouldn't hesitate to knock a few heads together if that's what's needed. As an example, he came across Nanaki (Red XIII) in a berserk/enraged state about to massacre a group of hunters. Seeing nothing of his friend in the 'rabid dog', he shot (to unconsciousness) his friend and then patched him up and waited for him to waken again to find out what the hell happened.
Vincent would not limit himself to just his assigned inmate. He would overall care about the barge's security and safety at large and be willing to coordinate with other Wardens to provide insight or information on their respective cases. Turks can work alone but they more often worked in teams; generally pairs. And despite being happy to move on his own, Vincent would be familiar with the practices of coordination and teamwork as well as utilize them as needed.
As a particular strength, Vincent will want to be thorough and diligent about the job. Turks had pride in their work and the organization as a whole and even thirty years later, he shows attachment and fondness for the organization and the 'old times'. Even if he wasn't dedicated to the tasks of a Warden because of the bargain he made with the Admiral, he would still subconsciously fall back on this pride. His aim would not be to 'get the job done messy and quick', it would be to do the job thoroughly. For this he would be proactive in seeking out his Inmate and keeping tabs.
Vincent can handle a lot of flak thrown his way. Even being referred to as a monster or hearing denigration that monsters could not be people was something he simply set aside however much it troubled him personally. With recent events in his life, even the feeling trauma that might have made him mentally or emotionally withdraw has been buffered by a sense of peace and closure. He'd be a good fit for Inmates that might to mentally drag down or psychologically torment (whether as an attack or defensive) their wardens.
One of Vincent's primary weaknesses is that he is pretty introverted as a person. Reformation through therapy, social connections or emotional availability will be a struggle. It's not as if he wouldn't be a good listener or offer insight but his candid manner and sometimes riddle-like insight might be tough on someone who neeeds a more tactful or social approach. His bedside manner is pretty bad. There's no denying he won't put aside his personal hangups for social interaction to the side for The Job, however.
Vincent's outward demeanor of distance and apathy also puts some people off. While he does care and would work toward establishing a bond with his assigned inmate(s?), it may be slow to show. Those who need to have trust and overt actions to prove it would be better paired with a more outwardly empathetic Warden.
Deal: Vincent is expecting to get a type of amnesty for Lucrecia. Specifically, a safe cleansing of the Jenova within her and the health needed to live so she may then choose whether to live out a mortal life, remain imprisoned or return to the Lifestream. Whatever his own feelings or what happened in the past, he has come to know that she wanted, intended to save him with her actions after Hojo had used him in his experiments. So he would do no less in trying to give her back the gift of Choice.

Sample Network Entry: [ Note: Vincent is just a person that talks a lot or makes use of communication devices. It takes him three years after returning to society to even bother getting a phone. So rather than a single network post, I'm going to do some shortform bits he'd send out that are collectively in the requirement. If this is not okay, I will do my best to rework it! Or maybe find someone that can boomerang a quick network back and forth. /o/. ]
Sample RP: Samples here. Though these samples were Inmate oriented for my original app intentions, I feel they still give a good sampling of voice.
Special Notes: I'm poking around for information on the website to check, but Vincent has a specialized, three-barrel gun named Cerberus in canon. Do I need to outline this? Would it arrive with him or is it a request he needs to put in later?

Special Notes: I'm poking around for information on the website to check, but Vincent has a specialized, three-barrel gun named Cerberus in canon. Do I need to outline this? Would it arrive with him or is it a request he needs to put in later?

Character Name: Vincent Valentine
Series: Final Fantasy VII (OG)
Age: Approx 57-60, physically 27.
From When?: Dirge of Cerberus: Vincent's first encounter with Rosso the Crimson in Edge. While he is unable to die, he took considerable injury and also transformed to Chaos. Using this heavily injured, transitive state to say he was rendered vulnerable/open to the Admiral.
Inmate Justification: Vincent is a walking aggregate of self-assigned (some real, some assumed) sins. Some he has come to realize were not his to be punished for but another's. While others are demons (real and figurative) that he still contends with. In his own words, he has never tried to seek forgiveness for his sins and has to this date only sought to atone for them by inaction and two decades of self-imposed, nightmare fueled slumber. At this canon point, Wardens can aim for efforts on encouraging him to atone for his sins in a more proactive way and look for or seek out closure. (The latter is a given at the end of Dirge but at this point there's still much there. Seeking an 'alternate route' through TLV in some ways.)
Arrival: Vincent was brought against his will. He might remember a glimpse of the Admiral but it's fuzzy at best and at worst has no memory of the transition.
Without this, Vincent cannot easily control or suppress Chaos.
Chaos is insanely powerful, massively amping up strength, regeneration, and agility to an insane degree (he chucks a massive anti-airship artillery canon through someone's body like a knife through butter in this state). He is capable of flight and deadly projectile attacks. At some point future to his canonpoint, he also learns how to draw on the strength and power of Chaos while keeping his human form, arguably pushing him to speeds and strengths that probably surpass even SOLDIER.
Restrictions: Immortality seems a nonissue here since people don't age. I see no reason to nerf his baseline 'doesn't die/regeneration' since it's proven he feels pain, you can knock him unconscious/send him into a hibernative state for him to regenerate. It just might take a little more than normal to knock him unconscious and he can play dead if someone stabs him, wait to heal, get back up again later.
Weird gravity/telekinetic powers are almost nonexistant/closed off. He can probably make his cloak hem billow. Maybe not stumble on that last unexpected stair. Possibly delay a bowl from falling off the counter for a second so it can be caught! You know, small, anecdotal things. But otherwise unable to escape or use these on a dramatic or overscaled or even basic purpose.
Heightened physical strength and agility will be much closer to a baseline, atheletic human. Heightened senses would probably be largely untouched as they are not overtly offensive in nature and generally serve to sense threats.
Transformations will be impossible. Though it'll be 'there' because they're a part of him, the ability just won't trigger. Likewise, Chaos will be dormant. 'There' but forced into sleeping and inaccessible. It goes without saying he would not be able to channel any abilities either.
Magic is locked away. Has the potential and spiritual energy, but unable to do anything with it. This will probably be tied to whether or not his transformations are unlocked.
Mundane skillsets and knowledge are probably retained? If there's a need to put limiters on this, let me know. Otherwise he'll just be doing these things at a normal human specialist capacity. He probably plays a mean game of darts.
Inmate Information:
Vincent worked for the Shinra Company as a Turk, the corporation's problem solvers and intelligence division. Needless to say, although there's never any specifics given, it's safe to say his hands aren't clean. But the actual reason he has been brought in as an inmate are the events surrounding the beginning of the Jenova Project and Sephiroth's birth. While providing security for the scientists involved with the project, Vincent met and fell in love with Dr. Lucrecia Crescent. However, Lucrecia harbored a deep-seated guilt for the death of Vincent's father, who had protected her from a containment breach of stagnant mako. Vincent found out about the connection and confronted her. While he only wanted to hear her out, Lucrecia pulled away from Vincent and threw herself into the Jenova Project and turned to Professor Hojo. This led to Lucrecia agreeing to allowing the child she was carrying (by all accounts Hojo's) to be subjected to Jenova's cells.
While Vincent spoke out against the unethical practices, he backed down when Lucrecia insisted that this is what she wanted. After Lucrecia started suffering from the effects of the experiment, he confronted Hojo and ended up being shot. The professor saw the fatally wounded Turk as an opportunity to prove himself and likely get a pass for shooting Vincent if he succeeded. The experiments weren't kind. Vincent's body, though rended immune to aging and death, was deemed a failure due to instability which kept him comatose. Lucrecia sought to use her research into Chaos and Omega to stabilize Vincent and succeeded. However she had disappeared by the time Vincent regained full consciousness.
This left Vincent with limited understanding and brief flashes of his ordeal. Coupled with his own guilt for not saving Lucrecia or putting a stop to the experiments, he chose to do nothing, serving punishment for his sins in a decades-long slumber locked away in the Nibelheim-based Shinra Mansion's basement. Vincent was only stirred to action by meeting Cloud and his companions. Hearing of what his inaction had wrought- Sephiroth's insanity and the danger to the world- he at first thought to return to his slumber. He changed his mind, choosing to join the party at least long enough to seek revenge against Hojo. During this journey and in confronting the Professor, he came to realize that while his sins could not be changed, there was much he took on himself that should have been Hojo's punishment instead.
Vincent was also able to find Lucrecia, though he lied to her and said her son was dead to spare her the pain of what Sephiroth had become. By the time he returned to her after the events of Meteor, she had sealed herself in crystalized mako. He visited regularly and often had dreams of fleeting glimpses of memories from the experiments performed on him. Many of these have left him with more questions than answers.
Vincent's demeanor suggests a stern man, mysterious and cold.
Underneath the cold demeanor lies a great deal of emotion.
Awakening to find himself an immortal, monstrous product of Hojo's experiments and Lucrecia's efforts to save him did no favors to his state of mind, with half-glimpsed memories of the procedures leaving him confused and uncertain if the latter's efforts had been made for his benefit or revenge and scientific curiosity. Though this easily lead to a virtually unwavering belief such punishment would have been no less than he deserved.
Emerging from his decades-long slumber had given him a wider world in which to process what happened to him but more importantly what is and isn't his sin to bear. Though by the end of the events of Dirge of Cerberus he is given some closure over the long established survivor's guilt, at the time he was brought to the barge, he is still lost in the uncertainties and questions.
Path to Redemption:
Redemption has two layers. The foremost is complicity in Sephiroth's descent to madness and efforts to destroy humanity through inaction. While he recognizes this as his sin through the choice he made and came to some atonement through action by joining Cloud's party, do the combined hibernation and action truly amount to enough punishment? Or even count toward atonement? Vincent himself admits that it was just choices he made and does not absolve his sins, nor does it mean they are forgiven.
The second layer is the uncertainties and unknowns surrounding his complicated relationship with Lucrecia and the experiments conducted on him. Vincent deals with extreme guilt about his survival and the emotional burdens of what it means to be immortal. While this isn't a crime, it is tangled deeply with the perception of his overall sins as well as the real and perceived culpability in Sephiroth's origins. By the end of Dirge, he gets some closure. The barge provides an opportunity to reach some sort of acceptance or openness to pursue the answers he fears with more courage once he returns; an alternate or addition to his
Vincent is stubborn about his views on the sins he bears. He has not once sought to seek forgiveness for them and his form of atonement was to lock himself away and sleep in nightmares for almost thirty years. He is also here against his will, but at the same time he's perfectly reasonable. That's how prisons work; someone assigns a crime by their standards and he has to do the time to win his release; he'll accept having a Warden because that's how prisons work. Given a permanent Warden assignment is likely going to be the best route forward rather than temporary Warden pairings.
Of course that doesn't mean he won't have to deal with a bit of trial and error leading up to a permanent pairing. It's just that it's less likely to be fruitful if he's having to change out every month or so.
Emotional blackmail is not going to work on him. He's naturally a private individual and introverted. Approaches that are aggressive or needlessly condemning will probably backfire on the Warden.
Some of the triggers may be cast related. But there's also the possibility for similar stories to serve as triggers or the slow (but inevitable) friendships he develops on the barge to serve as catalysts to improve his own outlook. While he doesn't believe he's 'the only one that suffers'- that describes way too many people touched by Shinra's scientists on his world and he knows it- it's a whole different story hearing other tales and experience. While he might not outwardly react much, it is something he will remember and mull over on his own time.
Vincent once told Nanaki "You'll keep thinking about it your whole life and that's how it should be. The important thing is that you don't forget." When he gives advice like this, it's something he himself practices.
In addition to this, I'm hoping that he may stay on and transition to a Warden, depending on what he learns about graduation and what it means to live on the barge. Help others, in return getting a wish granted. Depends on how things go and how the Graduation transitions work!

Vincent Valentine
Also, spoilers for the original Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VII Advent Children and Dirge of Cerberus (Also FF7. But mostly Vincent rocking around cinematically to Gackt music.)
Over twenty years passed after the experiments turned Vincent into what he is today. The majority of that time was spent in a self-imposed slumber, suffering nightmares of the past events. He finally left his exile to follow Cloud as he hunted what Sephiroth had become, hoping to find and confront Hojo. Along the journey he came to value his allies and aided their journey more out of care for what was happening than the drive for revenge and absolution. Along with the others, he discovered a cave in which Lucrecia, unable to die because of the Jenova in her body, had imprisoned herself in solidified mako. When asked if her son lived, Vincent lied and said he had died.
He was also able to face Hojo, finally realizing that much of the terrors Vincent had blamed himself for were faults of professor's unchecked pursuits in scientific experimentation. Though he and his allies were able to kill the scientist, Vincent would later return to discover Hojo had lived long enough to trigger something else though he was forced to retreat before fully exploring what that was.
Two years after the events of preventing the world's destruction at Sephiroth's hands, Vincent was drawn out of his distant travels and solitude to face the issues caused by a worldwide pandemic known as Geostigma. Learning that this was instigated by Sephiroth's will to be reborn through beings of concentrated Geostigma known as Remnants, Vincent would join Cloud to defeat the summoned Bahamut SIN that threated Midgar and help open the way to bring an end to the madman's bid for rebirth.
Then a year after Geostigma, Hojo's last act manifested as Deepground emerged. Lead by the elite Tsviets, this unit had twofold purpose. Ressurrect their leader and find the Protomateria which had been used to stablize the Chaos energy Lucrecia used to save Vincent. Reluctantly drawn into the fray, Vincent pursues Deepground who have been kidnapping people, using them to create a 'pure' pool of lifestream with which to bring about the incarnation of Omega WEAPON; meant to act as the catalyst to launch the planet's lifestream into the stars to find a new home, at the expense of the destruction and death of everything else left behind. In the end, aided by his new and old allies, Vincent is able to use Chaos; a WEAPON like companion to Omega used to return as much life as possible to the Lifestream, to put a stop to Omega's launch. Along the way he gains some closure on old wounds and comes to better terms with his survival and past traumas.
Then, because Vincent cannot have nice things, on the way to go see his friends, the Fox nips in and spirits him away.
...Though honestly this is probably more like a vacation at this point. Even if he is supposed to be finding his potential along the way.
He also explored his newfound ability to become a black chocobo with varying levels of interruption.
After escorting a woman named Rachel to a safer place, he set out, largely avoiding other Star Children. Because that is what he does.
Of course no one, especially not Thoth, was just going to let him wander around when he had definitely taken an offer off the wanted (for SCIENCE!) poster. So he found himself testing problem solving skills with a youth named Gene and an entire room of experimental (and normal) equipment. Most of it was even for climbing.
At least he got a gun from home. But that also came attached to the knowledge there is a Sephiroth from home too. A younger, less driven-to-insanity version who looks a lot like his mother. Leaving the teenage SOLDIER to believe he was (still) a Turk working for the Shinra Company, Vincent eventually retreated to figure out his next steps.
physical attributes As a Familiar, Vincent will possess black feathers mixed with his hair and a moderate tail tuft consistent with the black chocobo which will be his initial shift. The feathers in his hair might be easier to pick out than getting a visual on the tail tuft thanks to his cloak's design but rest assured it will billow dramatically and provide some good opportunities.
non-physical qualities A black chocobo in Vincent's world is capable of crossing mountains, rivers and ocean shallows as easy as most other chocobos would cross a field. They are flightless but able to carry at least one rider and saddlebags. Very familiar with shapeshifting he will have an easier time than most adjusting to the process. However he will not be able to use his Familiar talents to access, much less control the metamorphoses gained through the experiments on his body. Trying will result in a conflict that gambles how much control he'd have over the feral monster he became and he is definitely not willing to risk the resulting rampage and death. Outside of the usual Familiar shapeshifting skill, Vincent also has the ability to psychically bond.
reasoning Vincent is neither hero nor villain. Though he cares about the dangers to his world more than his demeanor suggests, he tends to fall into the role of one who supports the heroic efforts of others or simply supportive of those he considers friends. He generally acts as the confidant and the one who offers aid from the shadows, willing to do both good and evil if it is what is needed to get the job done.

Iteration
Vincent is drawn from the original game's canon timeline. He has yet to be in Folkmore for very long, though first arrived in Wintermute during the April Arrival of Star Children. After being rescued by a familiar face, he faced various encounters, got some help understanding the relic a bit better and was forced to share a personal story with a stranger after a bunch of mechanical dogs piled on top of him until he submitted to Thoth's polite request to stay a while and listen (and be listened to). His choice was a bit of a cop out but then so was the stranger's so it was okay?He also explored his newfound ability to become a black chocobo with varying levels of interruption.

★ Out of Character Permissions ★
Backtagging: As long as it makes sense!
Fourth walling: Not my jam, but ask.
Thread hopping : Sure if everyone's okay with it.
Content warnings and sensitive subjects: Rape, child predation. I can deal with them in context of backstory but these are a hardline no for any ongoing story.
Anything else: Loosely open to conversation about ideas. I'm cool with drama or consequences of IC stuff, but I don't really get into CR that's drama for drama's sake.
★ In Character Permissions ★
Physical affection: He's not a hugsy type of person. But it's possible. Mostly going to be platonic. Kids and small fuzzy mascots tend to be given a pass for hugs, cloak hiding, and shoulder rides.
Romance: This guy has been holding a torch for essentially a dead woman for over twenty years. Romance would still be a hard sell.
Violence: Possible. If it's going to be extreme, let's chat first.
Injuries : Sure, if it's reasonable for the scene!
Death: Possibly. It should make sense for the CR.
Telepathy and mind-reading: Go ahead. I dare you. (Okay, with consent.)
Content warnings and sensitive subjects related to the character: Human experimentation (personal), body horror, has been party to or complicit with/safeguarding Bad Things
Content warnings and sensitive subjects this character won't be involved in: See: OOC Content Warnings. ICly Vincent is made of stern stuff.

? Folkmore Roles & Attributes
Skills:
Combat: Vincent is an expert in combat and tactics. He excels in all manner of firearms, including excellent marksman and sniper skills. It can also be inferred that, as a former member of Shinra's Turks, he has at least a basic understanding of explosives, infiltration, surveillance and rescue proceedures, investigations, as well as most anything that would fit under a corporate specialized bodyguard/securities/fixer position.
High-Tech Society: The electricity and fuel may be mako, magic and potions still preside, but Vincent himself was raised in a society with a firm grounding of technology and science. Though still occasionally out of touch with the latest innovations and nuance of the most recent 20-something years, he would be comfortable and familiar with the concept of things like televisions, cars, radios and computers. And cellphones.
Science: While not a scientist himself, Vincent has a working understanding of scientific terms and theories. In part just being intelligent, self study and possibly some influence of his scientist father and personal need to understand his own experimental nature, he will not be lost in a technical conversation.
Materia Use: Like just about anyone of his world, Vincent has access to magic through materia. He is trained in its use. With the right materia, he could cast spells like any mage, enhance himself or obtain passive skills and resistances.
Queen's Blood: Has knowledge of and at least one deck for the (somewhat haunted) card game called Queen's Blood. Is aware of some of its more darker secrets.
Canon Abilities:
Subject of Experimentation: He's been given a 'nigh-indestructable and immortal' body, monstrous transformations, regenerative capability and heightened senses via intense experimentation on his body. His reflexes and strength are clearly far beyond the human norm and he seems capable of defying or manipulating how gravity affects him for limited periods of time. His resilent body allowed him to survive the integration of the quasi-WEAPON called Chaos. In balance it seems hinted that he has to fight the urge to sleep.
Heightened Senses: Somewhere between a strong connection to the Planet and the monster-senses, Vincent exhibits extrasensory abilities and a keen ability to sense or discern when something is amiss in the natural order.
Shapeshifting: Part of the experiments have given Vincent access to other forms; a behemoth-hybrid called Galian, two humanoid creatures on par with horror movies and - for a time - the demonic Chaos (see below).
Other than being something people might detect and having a type of energy one might expect from 'highly condensed lifestream' pulsing from it, it's so specialized that it has no other function than its connection to exerting influence over Omega and Chaos.
(Former) Chaos Host: Though the events of Dirge reveal Chaos 'returns' to the Planet, this is the energy that stablized the experiments he underwent. Being a creature attuned to and crafted by the dark evils, terrors and 'sins' naturally pushed out of the Lifestream, Vincent remains virtually immune to such influences as a result. Other than this resistence, barring Chaos finding its way back in him, he will not enjoy any of the transformation or enhancements drawing on Chaos used to give.
Role: Familiar
Role Qualities/Attributes: Vincent's default Familiar form will be a black chocobo. In FF7 a black chocobo can cross rivers, ocean shallows and mountains with the same relative ease as a normal chocobo can trot across a field but cannot fly. He will have feathers laced around his hair and a nice little chocobo tail hiding under his cloak. Vincent will retain the Familiar ability for psychic bonding but whether he'll use it is another matter entirely.
Note: Vincent will NOT be able to use his familiar shapeshifting as a cheat to access his monstrous forms without the downsides; these two types of metamorphosis will remain pretty distinct.
Attempting to would likely lead to a gamble on what his state of mind would end up being. And besides, trying to use Familiar shapeshifting to become the galian beast would most likely result in just turning into a small behemoth.
Role Reasoning: Vincent is neither hero nor villain.
? Personality
Option 1.
Awakening to find himself an immortal, monstrous product of Hojo's experiments and Lucrecia's efforts to save him did no favors to his state of mind, with half-glimpsed memories of the proceedures leaving him confused and uncertain if the latter's efforts had been made for his benefit or her scientific curiosity. Though this easily lead to a virtually unwavering belief such punishment would have been no less than he deserved.
Emerging from his decades-long slumber had given him a wider world in which to process what happened to him but more importantly what is and isn't his sin to bear. And though he has recently been blessed with some closure over the long established survivor's guilt, it is only a first step of many into a future where Vincent realizes it is permissible for him to move forward. While it is and will be a long road, he's now in a state of mind where he might be more open to forgiving himself. And for a man who stated that he has never tried to atone for his sins, even this small step leads to a vast horizon of possibility.
