Character Name: Vincent Valentine
Series: Final Fantasy VII (OG)
Age: Approx 57-60, physically 27.

From When?: End of FF7: Dirge of Cerberus, between kamikaze dive into Omega and final scene at Lucrecia's cavern.

Warden Justification: Within the bounds of his canon, Vincent has run the gamut of experience as a morally gray/dark corporate fixer/security/assassin, suffering terrible torments of human experimentation, and failure to stop some really bad tragedies. So he has the perspective of such livelihoods as well as the practical skills and expertise to manage some of the rowdier inmates 'acting out'. In addition to this he's intelligent and while he doesn't speak much, what he does say tends to be well-thought and insightful. His bargain will make him extremely motivated to overcome his extremely introverted nature to fulfill the obligations and his hidden compassion and diligence will make him want to do the job right, not just 'to completion'. Because of his own past, Vincent has the empathy one can usually only achieve through the gamut of experiencing the cycle of sins, atonement, punishment and closure.

Item: Vincent's Warden Item will be this charm usually attached to his gun, Cerberus.

Abilities/Powers:

Subject of Experimentation: He's been given an 'immortal' body, monstrous transformations, regenerative capability and heightened senses via intense experimentation on his body. Vincent has received overly-fatal levels of damage; while he can be knocked unconscious, suffer pain and the like, he heals up in a short period of time and just... gets back up. His reflexes and strength are clearly far beyond the human norm and he seems capable of defying or manipulating how gravity affects him for limited periods of time (you know this bs or this). His resilent body allowed him to survive the integration of the quasi-WEAPON called Chaos. In balance it seems hinted that he has to fight the urge to sleep.

Heightened Senses: Somewhere between a strong connection to the planet and the monster-senses, Vincent exhibits extrasensory abilities and a keen sense to discern when something is amiss in the natural order. He seems able to sense oddities, fiends, and monsters despite there being some distance between himself and the cause. He's probably hard to sneak up on as well.

Magic Potential: While materia's generally the only means on his world for using magic, Vincent is a decently strong spellcaster in that regard, with a fairly generous amount of mana to draw on.

Shapeshifting: Part of the original experiments on him have given Vincent access to other forms; a behemoth-hybrid called Galian Beast, two humanoid creatures on par with horror movies and the 'demiWEAPON' Chaos (see below). While the intervening years have given him the ability to briefly transform without losing control, it is still a very feral, bestial state for him. A controlled transformation readily drains the same energy used to cast magic and would leave him unable to use spells for a while after. Less controlled transformations could last longer and sometimes might require that he simply be beaten down to stop the rampage.

Ancient/Proto Materia: Within his body resides an ancient materia created by the Planet. It is connected to Omega and Chaos and, when Chaos was within him, quelled its rage and allowed him to retain his human consciousness. Other than being something people might detect and having a type of energy one might expect from 'highly condensed lifestream' pulsing from it, it's so specialized that it has very limited functions: exerting influence over Omega and Chaos (allowing Vincent to control Chaos) and providing shield against their energy. Without this, Vincent cannot easily control or suppress Chaos, though he has succeeded at it.

Chaos Host: Vincent plays host to the planetary 'demiWEAPON', Chaos. Unlike his other transformations (probably), the entity is a being in its own right, acting as herald to events which would summon the WEAPON Omega. In the event of a catastrophe that damages the planet beyond saving, Chaos appears to return all life to the Lifestream which Omega then takes to the stars to find another world to settle on. Being a creature attuned to and crafted by the dark evils, terrors and 'sins' naturally pushed out of the Lifestream, Vincent remains virtually immune to such influences as a result. Chaos is extremely powerful, massively amping up strength, regeneration, and agility to a godlike degree (he chucks a massive anti-airship artillery canon through someone's body like a knife through butter in this state). He is capable of flight and deadly projectile attacks. By the end of Dirge also learns how to draw on the strength and power of Chaos while keeping his human form, arguably pushing him to speeds and strengths that probably easily surpass SOLDIER (at the time of this, the only cinematic example is fighting against another WEAPON-Empowered individual, where the two are moving at speeds where you only see the spark of weapons clashing and after-images taking fatal strikes).

Mundane Skills: Vincent is a former member of Shinra Company's Turks, a group of specialists who were responsible for investigations, intelligence, security and the dirty work. Company fixers if you will. Vincent is trained in a wide range of skills that facilitate the work he performed. This would include hand-to-hand combat, intelligence, stealth, surveilance, security and any number of useful skills such operatives would find useful in their line of work (yes, he probably does know how to make makeshift bombs out of household chemicals, it's probably fine). Even before the experiments that changed his body, his particular specialty was in firearms and marksmanship; he was considered the best of his time. He also is a dab hand at the trading card game 'Queen's Blood' and seems more than capable of reading and understanding scientific reports on a fundamental level; likely a combination of vested interest in what happened to him and having a scientist father.

Restrictions: Overall I do not think anything would be expressly more powerful than the Admiral. The only thing that might come close is channeling or using Chaos but from what I understand, this would probably be on the lines of 'won't fall over flat if the Admiral breathes on him'. Needless to say, probably not a worry here.

Chaos Note: Sometime after Vincent takes out Omega and when he is shown in Lucrecia's Cave two weeks later, Chaos itself is 'returned to the planet'. While I think it would be interesting that the Admiral approaches him at a point after Omega's defeat but before Chaos returns to the planet (as a possible trump card for emergencies), I am just as fine playing without the Chaos transformation option (maybe having it crop up at some appropriate event as a story beat but otherwise...). Please let me know what you, as mods would prefer me to go with or if this is even relevant to what the Admiral might choose to do.

Wardening Strategies and Philosophies:

Overall Vincent will view the job as a Warden in three ways: reformation, punishment/judgment, and guardian/security of the barge as a whole. The latter is a passive role he's comfortable and familiar in the concept of filling thanks to his years and training with the Turks. He also wouldn't hesitate to knock a few heads together if that's what's needed. As an example, he came across Nanaki (Red XIII) in a berserk/enraged state about to massacre a group of hunters. Seeing nothing of his friend in the 'rabid dog', he shot (to unconsciousness) his friend and then patched him up and waited for him to waken again to find out what the hell happened.

Vincent would not limit himself to just his assigned inmate. He would overall care about the barge's security and safety at large and be willing to coordinate with other Wardens to provide insight or information on their respective cases. Turks can work alone but they more often worked in teams; generally pairs. And despite being happy to move on his own, Vincent would be familiar with the practices of coordination and teamwork as well as utilize them as needed.

As a particular strength, Vincent will want to be thorough and diligent about the job. Turks had pride in their work and the organization as a whole and even thirty years later, he shows attachment and fondness for the organization and the 'old times'. Even if he wasn't dedicated to the tasks of a Warden because of the bargain he made with the Admiral, he would still subconsciously fall back on this pride. His aim would not be to 'get the job done messy and quick', it would be to do the job thoroughly. For this he would be proactive in seeking out his Inmate and keeping tabs.

Vincent can handle a lot of flak thrown his way. Even being referred to as a monster or hearing denigration that monsters could not be people was something he simply set aside however much it troubled him personally. With recent events in his life, even the feeling trauma that might have made him mentally or emotionally withdraw has been buffered by a sense of peace and closure. He'd be a good fit for Inmates that might to mentally drag down or psychologically torment (whether as an attack or defensive) their wardens.

One of Vincent's primary weaknesses is that he is pretty introverted as a person. Reformation through therapy, social connections or emotional availability will be a struggle. It's not as if he wouldn't be a good listener or offer insight but his candid manner and sometimes riddle-like insight might be tough on someone who neeeds a more tactful or social approach. His bedside manner is pretty bad. There's no denying he won't put aside his personal hangups for social interaction to the side for The Job, however.

Vincent's outward demeanor of distance and apathy also puts some people off. While he does care and would work toward establishing a bond with his assigned inmate(s?), it may be slow to show. Those who need to have trust and overt actions to prove it would be better paired with a more outwardly empathetic Warden.

Deal: Vincent is expecting to get a type of amnesty for Lucrecia. Specifically, a safe cleansing of the Jenova within her and the health needed to live so she may then choose whether to live out a mortal life, remain imprisoned or return to the Lifestream. Whatever his own feelings or what happened in the past, he has come to know that she wanted, intended to save him with her actions after Hojo had used him in his experiments. So he would do no less in trying to give her back the gift of Choice.

Sample Network Entry: [ Note: Vincent is just a person that talks a lot or makes use of communication devices. It takes him three years after returning to society to even bother getting a phone. So rather than a single network post, I'm going to do some shortform bits he'd send out that are collectively in the requirement. If this is not okay, I will do my best to rework it! Or maybe find someone that can boomerang a quick network back and forth. /o/. ]

  • If Yuffie shows up here, do not give her my contact ID. There's no emergency in the universe that will give her the right to use it.

  • Does anyone know how to turn the sunlight off?

  • There is a bar in the Lounge but no hours posted. If anyone knows the schedule or who to contact about it, reply here.

  • [ In response to shorthand texting. Whether or not he actually comprehends what was typed. ] Funny. Mind trying again with words? I left my decoder ring at home.

  • What types of wine do they have available?

  • Whoever's knocking on my door and not getting an answer, there's a reason for that.

Sample RP: Samples here. Though these samples were Inmate oriented for my original app intentions, I feel they still give a good sampling of voice.

Special Notes: I'm poking around for information on the website to check, but Vincent has a specialized, three-barrel gun named Cerberus in canon. Do I need to outline this? Would it arrive with him or is it a request he needs to put in later?
